The Philadelphia
Naval Ship Yard can be found on League Island in the Delaware River in the City
of Philadelphia. It has served many purposes over its lifetime which dates back
to 1801. Many large scale operations took place during the 20th
century when the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard saw its part in the production of
Naval ships and aircrafts. During World War I, the Naval Ship Yard produced
aircraft and during World War II, the Naval Ship Yard not only constructed new
ships but also repaired damaged ships. Post World War II the Naval Ship Yard
served in smaller functions as the Naval Air Material Center and the Naval Air
Engineering Center. The last ship was completed in 1970.
